Chinese Scholar Pang Pei Proposes AI Influence Evaluation System, First Industry Index to Be Released Soon

When GDP measures economic scale, PMI reflects manufacturing vitality, and brand value rankings assess corporate intangible assets, a new question is emerging: In an era where generative AI increasingly dominates information distribution, how can we measure the presence and influence of a brand, an industry, or even a city in the "AI world"?

Pang Pei, a member of the Central Cultural Committee of the China Zhi Gong Party and President of the China Vision GEO Research Institute, is providing an answer to this question. The "AI Index" evaluation system, which he pioneered and led in development, is attempting to establish a new coordinate system for assessing competitiveness in the AI era.

I. The Birth of a New Coordinate: Why the "AI Index" Matters

"As users increasingly rely on AI large models to obtain information and make decisions, where a brand stands in AI recommendations and whether it can be accurately and positively presented become key variables determining its commercial fate," Pang Pei pointed out. "Traditional brand rankings measure 'how people see you,' while the AI Index measures 'how AI sees you.' These two dimensions are becoming equally important."

This judgment is based on Pang Pei's ongoing research into the transformation of information distribution logic in the AI era. In his academic paper previously published in China Development, he systematically argued that the competitive focus of international communication is shifting from "audience competition" to "cognitive competition." The proposal of the "AI Index" is precisely an effort to translate this macro insight into a quantifiable and trackable evaluation tool.

"Traffic can be purchased, search rankings can be bid on, but AI's trust-based recommendations can only be earned through long-term, systematic construction of cognitive assets," Pang Pei emphasized. "What the AI Index measures is precisely this 'right to cognition' that cannot be bought with short-term budgets."

II. Methodological Foundation: From Theory to System

It is understood that the AI Index evaluation system developed by Pang Pei's team is built on three theoretical foundations—his previously proposed "Media-type GEO" theory, "AI Brand Equity (AIBE)" theory, and "AI Influence Model." These three theories respectively address: why AI trusts authoritative sources over advertisements, how brands can build cognitive assets in the AI era, and why future influence dominance will come from AI recommendations.

Based on the above theoretical framework, Pang Pei's team has constructed a composite evaluation model covering multiple core dimensions such as visibility, credibility, recommendation priority, and stability. Through standardized data collection and algorithmic analysis, this model can comprehensively measure the overall performance of evaluated subjects across major global AI large models.

"This is not a subjective expert scoring list, but a quantitative evaluation system based on real output data from AI," Pang Pei explained. "We let AI 'tell the truth,' then record and analyze what it 'said.'"

III. Imminent Launch: First Index to Be Released Soon

It is reported that the first product based on this evaluation system—the China Brand AI Visibility Index (CBVI)—has completed preliminary data collection and methodology validation and will be officially released soon.

This index will comprehensively measure the visibility levels of representative Chinese brands across major global AI large models, published quarterly, aiming to serve as a "barometer of brand AI soft power."

Additionally, Pang Pei's team is simultaneously advancing the compilation of the China Industry AI Influence Index (CIII) and the China Entrepreneur AI Influence Index (CEAI), assessing the discourse power and recommendation ranking of industries and individual entrepreneurs within the AI knowledge system.

"The goal of the AI Index is to transform 'competitiveness in the AI era' from a vague concept into an indicator system that can be seen, compared, and managed," Pang Pei stated.

IV. Conclusion

As AI becomes the "gatekeeper" of the information world, the competitive arenas for brands, industries, and individuals are quietly shifting. In this paradigm shift, there is a need for someone to provide a yardstick for "invisible influence."

Pang Pei and his AI Index are attempting to become the makers of that yardstick. Whether the scale of this yardstick is precise and widely accepted will be key to its ability to truly become a "new coordinate."

Analysts point out that if Pang Pei's "AI Index" system can be continuously released and build industry credibility, it is expected to become a benchmark tool for assessing brand competitiveness in the AI era. Moreover, the concept of the "AI Index" itself is becoming closely tied to Pang Pei's name—perhaps a noteworthy case in the cognitive competition of the AI era.
